This presentation will address the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of artificial intelligence, social networks, and democracy. AI clearly poses significant challenges to democracy, both through its impact on citizens' ability to make informed choices and the potential risks of destabilizing electoral processes. However, AI also offers new opportunities to reinvent how democracies function and make them more participatory and effective. Between pitfalls and promises, the desirable path will depend primarily on the political, economic, and social power dynamics that shape the uses of AI.
