Deputy Director General
Description
Dr Alain Becoulet is currently Deputy Director General and Chief Scientist at the ITER Organization, a role he has held since 2023.
Prior to this, he led the Engineering Domain at ITER, overseeing 450 staff and serving as Delegated Design Authority and DigITER
Program Leader. From 2011 to 2020, he was Director of CEA/IRFM, managing a team of 300 and a €35M annual budget. He also
represented France at the EUROfusion General Assembly. Dr Becoulet co-founded the Sino-French Fusion Energy Center
(SIFFER) and served as Deputy Director at the Chinese International Fusion Energy Cooperation Center. He chaired the 26th IAEA
Fusion Energy Conference in 2016 and organized the 28th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference in 2020–2021. Earlier in his career, he
led major EFDA-JET task forces on advanced scenarios and integrated modeling. He also headed key departments at CEA/IRFM
from 1995 to 2010. With 38 years in fusion science, he is a member of the Academy of Technologies of France. He has been
honored as a Knight of the French National Order of Merit and received the International S/T Cooperation Award from China.
